Albany High
School offers an in-house alternative program for ninth grade students
who are achieving below their potential, as well as for those who have
had a history of suspensions. The teachers in these programs work with
students in a small setting to get them to improve their attendance,
study habits, and behavior.
Students in
grades 10-12 are provided with a different alternative program know as
"Essential Schools." This program is aimed at students who enjoy
hands-on learning, involving them in a lot of project work that
integrates English, math, science, and social studies into their work.
