A comprehensive music program is offered to
students at the high school. Students can elect to take Music In Our
Lives, Music Theory and Music AP-Theory.
Additionally, Albany
High recently became an International Baccalaureate School, which
includes a music program for students participating in the advanced
portion of IBO.
International
Baccalaureate Program (IBO)
The goal of this program is to provide students the opportunity to
explore and enjoy the diversity of music throughout the world.
The course is a full
year and is intended to encourage students to develop perceptual skills
through a breadth of musical experiences where they will learn to
recognize, speculate, analyze, identify, discriminate, and hypothesize
in relation to music. This course will assist students to develop their

Students at Albany
High School can audition to become a member of one of two bands:
Students in these
bands receive one weekly lesson and daily band rehearsals. Students are
expected to participate in all concerts and marching engagements.
Jazz Improvisational 1 & 2:
Students in these music groups must participate in orchestra and band,
and be auditioned to elect these courses.
Participating in Marching Band at Albany High is required for all band
members. Students are provided extra rehearsal time Thursday nights from
6-8 pm. Students are expected to march in city parades, such as the St.
Patrick's Day Parade, Memorial Day Parade, Columbus Day Parade, and
Veterans' Day Parade, as well as in the Albany High School Homecoming
Parade and home football games. Band students also will perform at home
basketball games.
