Schools
today face an unprecedented challenge--to bring all students up to a
level of achievement that was once reserved for only the top
students. The idea of a Regents diploma for all would have
previously been thought of as impossible. Now it is viewed as
imperative.
Indeed, all
students must now graduate with a Regents diploma; and the Regents exams
themselves require a much higher level of literacy and critical thinking
than those of the past.
In response
to this challenge, the City School District of Albany has adopted a
number of school reform initiatives aimed at creating high performing
schools.
All of these
initiatives have a proven record of success, especially in urban
schools. While they vary in detail, they all focus on the concept that
better teaching equals better results.
School
reform initiatives in Albany include:
-
ATLAS Communities. ATLAS, which stands for Authentic Teaching, Learning,
and Assessment for All Students, has been adopted by Arbor Hill
Elementary School. Follow
this link for more information about this initiative.
-
Co-Nect.
This technology-based reform initiative has been adopted by Hackett
Middle School. Follow this link

-
Success
For All. The SFS program has been
adopted by Giffen Elementary School. Follow
