Albany High School student and her "Big Sister" honored

Albany High School student LaMecca Butler's big sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region has been named the National Big Sister of the Year.
LaMecca and Delmar resident Betsy Gorman-Bernardi, shown from left to right, will travel to Indianapolis in late June to accept the honor at the national Big Brothers Big Sisters conference. They have been a pair for eight years, since LaMecca was 9 years old. On Wednesday, June 21, the school district and the local Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter celebrated the award at Albany High School. Superintendent Eva Joseph, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Executive Director Karen Brown, School Board President and Big Brothers/Big Sisters board member Edward H. Brown Jr., and County Executive Michael Breslin, as well as LaMecca and Betsy made some remarks on the special occasion.
