Students at Giffen Memorial Elementary
School this year collected about 450 books for a BOCES initiative
known as 10,000 books, an effort to send books to libraries in the
south destroyed by hurricanes. Our students made regular
announcements and counted the books and graphed the increase on a
weekly basis. The BOCES effort actually
gathered more than 20,000
books in all to help the affected libraries. Pictured here, from
left to right, are Giffen fifth grade students Tierra Fryar, Sahi
Van-Tull and Jarquese Mitchell holding a certificate from the
program. The students are active members of the Giffen Student
Government Association.
