EXTENDED SCHOOL DAY PROGRAMS 2006-2007

1. Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Program! Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region invites you to take part in the newly designed Workplace Mentoring Program. Please join us see what it’s all about. Transportation will be provided from and returning to the school. Contact and more information: Sabrina Houser, Coordinator, 862-1250 Ext.19. Starts October 3rd.Additional application is required.

2. Chess Club! Enter the exciting world of strategy games by joining the Chess Club. Learn and practice chess after school with the help of a chess advisor. If you like games of conquest you may be ready to take on chess. Meet new friends and test your wits all at the same time! Albany City Council PTA. Advisor Mr. David Freedman, Start date and room to be announced.

3. G.A.I.N.! (Group Awareness Individual Nourishment) Get involved and help create a positive environment for youth! Join G.A.I.N. and enhance your positive self image, strengthen your life skills, and expand your awareness of life options. Let’s connect! One day per week October-June. Room to be announced. 4. Liberty Partnership Rising Stars Program! Reach your full potential and achieve academic success. Get homework help; tutoring, participate in support groups; career exploration workshops; and other enrichment activities. October-June, Monday-Thursday. Room to be announced. 5. Theatre Club! After school theater workshop. Get all the skills needed to understand and participate in a fabulous school theater production. Learn acting, and technical training in theater. 6. Survivor! Obtain the tools and resources you need today for success tomorrow. Survive by making good relationships, good decisions, learn about your community, life roles and goals. This program includes seminars with special guest speakers, prizes and other great incentives. Program runs 8 weeks, starting November (date to be announced) Tuesday and Thursday, 3:00-4:30. 7. Teen Choices Program! For Girls Only! Learn to feel good about yourself. Get ready to discuss all the hot issues facing middle school girls today. Learn to be assertive, make good choices and discuss health issues. Participate in many different events like educational field trips, ropes courses, school shadowing, and more. 8. Urban Scholars Program! Expand, enrich and challenge yourself through this unique program designed for middle school youth whose goals include graduating from college. This program recognizes the gifts and talents that participants bring with them to meet academic, civic and moral challenges. Discover your full potential through this special Saturday program at Siena College. Transportation and lunch are provided. October through May. 9. PAL Marching Band! Designed for participants who already know how to play an instrument. Rehearsals take place at Hackett Middle School at least one day per week, other times and frequencies will be announced by the music instruction coordinators. Wednesday rehearsals. October-May. 11. Club NYGEAR UP for 8th Graders! Watch for upcoming activities and special events like special mentoring programs, tutoring programs, and career exploration workshops and college preparation to name just a few.
