Over two days in
October, 188 district students in need of eyeglasses were given "the
gift of sight" via the Luxottica Group's Vision Van, which was stationed
at Albany HIgh School to serve them.
The
Luxottica Group (Lenscrafters) Foundation offers the Give the Gift of
Sight program to students whose families do not have insurance to cover
the expense.
The City School
District of Albany has a team of two nurses who work throughout the year
with staff in each building to identify students with vision problems
that may be a barrier to academic achievement. Too often, the parents of
identified children to not have adequate resources to provide follow-up
eye exams and appropriate treatment.
This year, our District
has partnered with Lenscrafters to bring these services to our
buildings. Through the generosity of professionals at Lenscrafters and
the "Gift of Sight Foundation" about 200 students with identified vision
problems will receive free eye exams and, where necessary, eyeglasses.
Durham School Services donated the transportation for students who
visited the Vision Van.
