Topic: Reading Helps Us to Learn

By Samantha Kirkley

The book I read was My Brother Martin by Christine King Farris.  I learned important lessons from this book.  I learned that people have different skin colors but you should treat them how you want them to treat you.  People should not be judged by the way they look.

I also learned how poorly black people were treated.  They weren’t able to get the same education white people were able to get.

Another thing I learned was that Martin had white friends until one day the white children’s mother thought that it was not right for black people to play with white people.  I think she was prejudiced.  I will not keep my children from playing with black children.  I think everybody should be able to play with each other no matter what their skin color is.

The most important thing I learned from this book is that people should not be judged from the outside and when they are it makes them feel sad.
