options for 2015-16 add convenience for families
registration for the 2015-16 school year began April 20, and the
City School District of Albany has put in place additional options
to make registration easier for families.
If your child currently is enrolled in a
prekindergarten program in one of the district's 12 elementary schools,
your child will automatically
be registered for kindergarten in the district for next school year.
Students in pre-K at
the three magnet schools (Albany School of Humanities [ASH],
Montessori Magnet School, and Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and
Technology [TOAST]) will continue to attend kindergarten at the same
Students who attend
pre-K in their catchment zone (neighborhood school) also will be
automatically enrolled and continue in the same school.
Students who attend
pre-K outside their catchment zone (neighborhood school)
automatically will be registered to attend kindergarten in their
neighborhood school based on the current home address on file.
Registration is not automatic
for students who attend pre-K in a program
outside of one of the district’s 12 elementary schools. If your
child is in one of these community-based pre-K programs not located
in one of our schools, you must register your child for
kindergarten. Paperwork will be available at your child’s pre-K
If your child is
not currently enrolled in pre-K in one of our 12 elementary
schools, be sure to register. Screening for all new enrollees will take
place in late June and early July.
New families will be contacted to set up an appointment.
In an effort to make the
process more accessible, families had the option to fill out and turn in
registration forms at any of our 12 elementary schools through Friday, April 24. Registrations will
continue to be accepted at Central Registration from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday
through Friday, on an ongoing basis.

Students who live further
than 1.5 miles from school can receive transportation. This will not
happen automatically. Please fill out a
transportation when they are distributed later this spring and
return it to an elementary school or Central
For those who wish to
open-enroll at a school outside your catchment zone, you may fill out a
request form. Please note though that no decision regarding open
enrollment will be made until late summer at the earliest.
Pre-K registration for
2015-16 continues. There are a number of open seats across the district
for next year. Due to the limited number of seats available, all pre-K
registrations must happen at Central Registration. If a seat is
available, you will be able to register. If a seat is not available, you
will be able to join the waiting pool for subsequent lottery drawings.

about pre-K or kindergarten registration, please call Central
