Vocational education has
a long, successful history in the City School District
of Albany, going back to at least 1914. The Abrookin Vocational Technical
Center opened at its current location on Kent Street in
1974, and today serves high school students, students
with special needs, adults, out-of-school youth,
alternative educational students and GED students.

for Albany High students only. The final
registration day will be held Thursday, July 1 from
8 a.m.-noon for all students.

May 'Spa Day' draws
crowd --
Students in the cosmetology department held their
second Spa Day on May 8, where they provided
bargain-priced beauty services to women in the
community just in time for Mother's Day.

Abrookin students
played
the part of young job-seeking professionals on April 27 during the school's "Dress for Success Day,"
when they underwent mock
interviews, attended seminars on resume-writing, motivation and interviewing skills
and -- of course -- dressed for success. In the

Local businesswoman
Cheryl Pollock donated a high-tech sewing and
embroidery machine and software to Abrookin on July
1 to enhance hands-on learning opportunities for
students in family and consumer science teacher Kim
DeHart's classes.
