About Abrookin
Vocational education has a long, successful history in the City School District of Albany, going back to at least 1914. The Abrookin Vocational Technical Center opened at its current location on Kent Street in 1974, and today serves high school students, students with special needs, adults, out-of-school youth, alternative educational students and GED students.

Abrookin offers:

• Career education for students in grades 9-12.

• Specialized programs in culinary arts, technology education, cosmetology, technical arts, life skills, and many other fields.

• An extended-day program that has become one of the district's most successful alternative education programs.

• Career Explorations in education, health care, finance, law, and engineering.

• A cutting-edge Career Academy that provides a valuable, high-tech education for students looking for a different high-school experience.

• Local businesswoman Cheryl Pollock donated a high-tech sewing and embroidery machine and software to Abrookin on July 1 to enhance hands-on learning opportunities for students in family and consumer science teacher Kim DeHart's classes. Check out our District News section to read more.

• Breakfast begins at 7:20 a.m.

• Classes begin at 7:50 a.m.

• Dismissal is at 2:50 p.m.

Absence from school
If your child is absent from school for any reason, call the school nurse at 462-7278 during the morning and provide a written excuse when your child returns to school.
