About Sheridan Preparatory Academy
The newly constructed Sheridan Preparatory Academy opened its doors in September 2004. The school is part of the City School District of Albany's comprehensive facilities plan to create smaller, more personal learning spaces where students have the technology necessary to succeed.

The school is proud to be able to provide a range of programs and services to take care of children's academic needs and provide health and wellness services on-site. These services include a school-based health center through the Whitney M. Young Health Center and a mobile dental health services program through a partnership with St. Peter's Hospital and Ronald McDonald House.

• Breakfast begins: 7:30 a.m.

• School day begins: 8 a.m.

• School day ends: 2:30 p.m.

• After-school child care ends: 6 p.m.

News and information

• Sheridan Prep teacher's volunteering earns her a Police Athletic League award -- Special-education teacher Janet Mangold received a "Community Supporter" award April 22 from the Police Athletic League (PAL) for the karate classes she volunteers to teach. Mangold, who also teaches kindergarteners and first-graders in a self-contained classroom at Sheridan Preparatory Academy, has taken karate for 30 years and taught it for 20. She has volunteered for PAL for three years, teaching weekly programs at Sheridan Prep and Giffen Memorial Elementary School and in PAL's summer program. (MORE)

• Sheridan Prep Homework Club takes off -- Fourth-grader Tashauna Martin is pretty good at math, but, in her own words, “sometimes I stumble.”  That’s why she’s one of 118 students from prekindergarten through fifth grade who gets extra help every day after school in Sheridan Preparatory Academy’s Homework Club (MORE)

Absence from school
If your child is absent from school for any reason, call the main office at 475-6850 during the morning and provide a written excuse when your child returns to school.
