We invite you to help us achieve our mission!

The City School District of Albany welcomes volunteers to lend their skills and experience to a wide range of activities that support teachers and staff in all of our schools and throughout the district. An important part of the district's 2008 strategic plan, our volunteer program aims to build and nourish deeper community connections that benefit all of our students.

Anyone can volunteer in our schools -- parents, grandparents, college students, community members of all ages. Everyone has something to offer and we invite you to think about ways that your time and talents can assist the district in its mission to educate and nurture all students to be responsible citizens, critical thinkers and lifelong learners to successfully compete in the global community. We are committed to finding the right fit for each volunteer's interests and experience.

To find out more about how you can get involved as a volunteer, please contact School Volunteer Coordinator Fiona Thompson at (518) 454-3987, ext. 465. You also can download a volunteer application form at the link below, or pick one up in the main office of any of our schools.

We also invite you to contact the Albany City Council Parent-Teacher Association or individual school PTAs to find out how you can get involved.

The City School District of Albany is located in the capital city of New York state. The district serves approximately 8,400 students in 16 schools, including 11 elementary schools, two middle schools, one prekindergarten-grade 8 school, a ninth-grade preparatory academy, one comprehensive high school and a number of innovative and alternative education programs. The district offers several outstanding school choice options, including three theme-based magnet elementary schools, a Dual-Language Program and open enrollment options across the district.

The district is home to award-winning public schools that have been recognized for excellence by the state and federal governments, as well as national publications. Albany High School was ranked among America's top 1,500 high schools in 2009 -- and second in the Capital Region -- in the annual Newsweek/Washington Post measure of students in advanced coursework.
