Morris leads boys' track team

to Albright Invitational championship

Kareem Morris won three individual events and ran the opening leg of the winning 4x100 relay to lead the Albany High School boys’ track team to the Albright Invitational championship April 18 at Albany Academy.

Morris won the 100 meters, 200 meters and long jump in addition to his role on the relay team to earn the meet’s Outstanding Track Athlete award.

Corey Harris also participated in the 4x100 relay (Jalon Scott and Fuad Jusic rounded out the foursome) and finished first in the high jump, second in the 100 meters and third in the triple jump.

Jamal Temple finished second in the shot put and discus, and Alex Schettino took second in the pole vault as Albany finished with 110.5 points, followed by Bethlehem (96) and LaSalle (55).

The Falcons opened the season April 11 with a second-place finish in the CBA-LaSalle Relays at CBA in Colonie, just two points behind meet winner Bethlehem.

Morris anchored winning relay teams in the 4x100 (with Harris, Scott and Jusic) and 4x200 (with Harris, Jusic and Evan Lacetti), helped the sprint medley relay team to a second-place finish (with Harris, Jusic and Gabe Gordon) and had the best jump in Albany’s second-place finish in the long jump relay (with Kyle Thompson and Schettino).

Lacetti, Thompson and Matthew Wu also took first place in the 3x400 hurdles relay. The Falcons had second-place finishes in the following events:

  • 4x1600 relay – Peter Barth, Tyler Norton, John Pettit and Matthew Ryan

  • 4x110 shuttle hurdles relay – Lacetti, Thompson, Zach Lauzon and Wu

  • Pole vault relay – Schettino, Vinny Kemp and Ryan

The City School District of Albany serves approximately 8,300 students in 18 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students. The district is more than halfway through its comprehensive facilities project to newly build and/or renovate nearly all of its elementary and middle schools. The ultimate goal of the facilities project is to provide schools with the resources necessary to help students succeed in the 21st century.
