Albany High track teams fare well in sectionals

Congratulations to both the boys’ and girls’ outdoor track teams for their successes at the Class AA Sectional Championship Track and Field Meet, which included a school record and a triple winner.

During sectional competition, the girls’ 3200-meter relay team broke a 16-year-old school record with a time of 10 minutes and 6 seconds. The previous record, set in 1993, was 10 minutes and 19 seconds. Relay team members Kynique Marabel, Katie Duggon, Fern Beetle-Moorcroft and Catheryne Calsolaro will compete in the upcoming state qualifying meet.

Also qualifying for the state meet from the girls’ team are Katie Duggon (800-meters), Kyniqua Marable (400-meters), and Molly Manjak (400-meter hurdles).

For the boys’ team, Kareem Morris was a triple winner. Morris won the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and was on the winning 400-meter relay team along with Jalon Scott, Corey Harris and Fuad Jusic.

Meanwhile, Corey Harris finished in 2nd place in the 100-meter dash and Alex Schettino finished in 4th place in the pole vault.

Also qualifying for the state meet from the boys’ team are Gabe Gordon (400-meter, 400-meter relay), Jah-maal Arrington (100-meter), Kyle Thompson (110-meter hurdles), and Matt Wu (400-meter intermediate hurdles).

The next competition for both the boys’ and girls’ outdoor track teams will be the New York State Qualifying Meet at Knox Field in Johnstown, to be held next Thursday and Friday (June 4-5).
