Albany High track teams fare well in
sectionals
Congratulations to
both the boys’ and girls’ outdoor track teams for their successes at the
Class AA Sectional Championship Track and Field Meet, which included a
school record and a triple winner.
During sectional
competition, the girls’ 3200-meter relay team broke a 16-year-old school
record with a time of 10 minutes and 6 seconds. The previous record, set
in 1993, was 10 minutes and 19 seconds. Relay team members Kynique
Marabel, Katie Duggon, Fern Beetle-Moorcroft and Catheryne Calsolaro
will compete in the upcoming state qualifying meet.
Also qualifying for
the state meet from the girls’ team are Katie Duggon (800-meters),
Kyniqua Marable (400-meters), and Molly Manjak (400-meter hurdles).
For the boys’ team,
Kareem Morris was a triple winner. Morris won the 100-meter dash,
200-meter dash, and was on the winning 400-meter relay team along with
Jalon Scott, Corey Harris and Fuad Jusic.
Meanwhile, Corey
Harris finished in 2nd place in the 100-meter dash and Alex Schettino
finished in 4th place in the pole vault.
Also qualifying for
the state meet from the boys’ team are Gabe Gordon (400-meter, 400-meter
relay), Jah-maal Arrington (100-meter), Kyle Thompson (110-meter
hurdles), and Matt Wu (400-meter intermediate hurdles).
The next competition
for both the boys’ and girls’ outdoor track teams will be the New York
State Qualifying Meet at Knox Field in Johnstown, to be held next
Thursday and Friday (June 4-5).
