MacDonald's success caps championship
season
for the Albany High girls' swimming team
For the second year in a row, Albany High School’s fall
sports season didn't end until Hanlon MacDonald was finished
swimming.
Hanlon, a junior, turned in two outstanding swims at the
state meet Nov. 20-21 at Webster Schroeder High School in suburban
Rochester. She qualified for the finals in both of her events, finishing
eighth in 50-yard freestyle (24.72 seconds) and 13th in the 100 free
with a personal-best time of 54.01 seconds. She had been shooting for top-20 performances in both events
after finishing 17th and 31st, respectively, at the 2008 state meet in
Buffalo as a sophomore.
“She’s very
driven and good in any event she swims,” said first-year coach Jenn
McCormack.
Hanlon's trip to
the state meet capped an outstanding season for the Albany High School
girls’ swimming team. The Lady Falcons were co-champions of the Aqua
League with Troy and had nine members qualify for the Section II meet,
where Albany finished eighth overall in Division 1.
Joining Hanlon
as sectional qualifiers were:

was exciting.”
