indoor track team
qualify for state, national championship
meets
Led by Kareem Morris, six members of the Albany High
School boys’ indoor track team will compete in the state championships
this weekend at Cornell University and also have qualified for the
national championships March 12-14 in New York City.
Morris qualified in three events, the 55 meters, long
jump and 800-meter relay. Dashawn Gates qualified in two events, the
55-meter high hurdles and the 800 relay.
Kyle Thompson also qualified in the 55 high hurdles and
Alex Schettino qualified in the pole vault after shattering his own
school record at the Section II state qualifiers Feb. 27 with a vault of
14 feet, 6 inches. Schettino broke a 29-year-old school record in
December with a vault of 13-7, and surpassed that at the Big 10
Championships on Jan. 30 by clearing 13-8.
Evan Lacetti and Jaah-Mel Arrington also will compete in
the 800 relay at the state and national meets.
