Boys' bowling coach notches 100th
career victory
The Albany High School boys’ bowling team’s victory over
Bishop Gibbons on Jan. 16 marked the 100th career victory for
coach Jim Sano.
The Falcons, who went on to win their last two matches of the regular
season to finish 6-10, are 102-31-4 during Mr. Sano’s eight-year tenure.
That includes four Big 10 championships, three Big 10 Tournament
championships and victories once each in the Scotia Invitational and
Albany’s own William F. Wigand Tournament.
“What I am most proud of is in the seven years we have hosted our own
holiday tournament, through many benefactors we have raised for our
bowlers more than $15,000 to allow us to keep the entry fee at $25 per
team for our tournament, thus allowing many teams to come since the
price is so inexpensive,” Mr. Sano said, noting that many schools are
able to enter multiple teams in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.
Among additional benefits, the funds also have allowed Mr. Sano and
girls’ bowling coach Nancy Madsen to buy personalized team shirts each
year for team members and provide bowling equipment for those students
that could not afford it. |
