Col.
Harry Corbit, (retired, New York State Police)
Students
need to feel safe in order to learn effectively. That is why during the
1997-98 school year the district introduced a program that uses School
Security Officers at its secondary schools to ensure a safe and secure
learning environment for students and staff.
Each School Security Officer must have a
minimum of seven years' experience in law enforcement and a working
knowledge of the criminal justice system, crisis intervention, conflict
resolution, and crime prevention.
At least one officer is assigned at each
high school and middle school. Their role includes:
-
Helping
to provide a safe learning environment and workplace.
-
Conducting security surveys.
-
Overseeing investigations of incidents on school property involving
district students, personnel, or property.
-
Acting
as a liaison with local police agencies.

Student
Code of Conduct
At the beginning of each school year, all parents receive the district's
Student Conduct & Disciplinary Handbook. It outlines what is expected of
each and every student when in school, as well as the disciplinary
action that is taken when a student does not behave appropriately.
For a copy of the handbook, please call 475-6000.
Photo ID
Badges
In September 2003, the district issued photo ID badges to all employees.
This was done to make it easier for staff and students to discern
between visitors and the more than 1,500 district employees.
In the
future, the district hopes to have an all-in-one student ID card that
would--in addition to identifying Albany students--be used to purchase
school meals, sign out library books, and eventually be used as a CDTA "swiper"
card. |
