Sept. 5, 2006:
-
School 18
was renamed Delaware Community School by the Board of Education. The
renaming comes in time for the new school year, and in advance of School
18's move to its new building on Bertha Street in January 2007. (In
July, School 16 was renamed Pine Hills Elementary in preparation for its
move to a new building on North Allen Street, which will also take place
in January).
-
The Board
also approved a new wellness policy, in concert with our goal of
creating a shift in thinking towards a healthier lifestyle.
Understanding the roles nutrition and physical fitness play in the
development of young adults, the policy is a general guideline for what
we feel are sensible snacks. We also want our leaders to be models for
our students by practicing what is being taught in the classroom, and
thus will suggest that teachers and staff refrain from eating what
students are discouraged from
consuming. We want students to know they can still enjoy food, but need
to moderate its consumption and be selective of the types of foods
eaten. More information regarding implementation of the wellness policy
will be available in the near future.
-
The board approved the extension, by one year, of the contract with Eva
C. Joseph, Ed., as Superintendent of the City of Albany School
