for 2007-08 school year

ALBANY, NY (August 28, 2007) -- The City School District of Albany's Board of Education has approved an updated Code of Conduct for the 2007-08 school year in the district's ongoing efforts to ensure a secure, orderly environment for all of its students.

The board approved the updates at its August 23 meeting at Albany High School. The revisions include clarifications on the district's dress code and its policy for the use of cell phones and other electronic devices, addressed in sections VI (Student Dress Code) and VII (Prohibited Student Conduct). View examples of the "Dos and Don'ts" of these revisions.

The full Code of Conduct is available in .pdf format.

  • Use of cell phone, Blackberry and other electronic communication devices are prohibited from the beginning of the school day to dismissal. This includes lunch, recess and study hall periods. These devices must be turned off during the course of the regular school day. If visible or in use, these devices will be subject to confiscation.

The City School District of Albany serves almost 9,400 students in 19 elementary, middle and high schools. The district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students in addition to neighborhood schools. The district is more than halfway through its comprehensive facilities project to newly build and/or renovate nearly all of its elementary and middle schools. The ultimate goal of the facilities project is to provide schools with the resources necessary to help students succeed in the 21st century.
