ALBANY, N.Y. (February
25, 2008)
-- Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education Joseph P. Dragone,
Ph.D., has been named to the prestigious "40 Under Forty" list compiled
annually by The Business Review.
The "40 Under Forty" list recognizes the most accomplished and
promising young professionals in the Capital Region. The goal of the
program, now in its eighth year, is to celebrate people who have the
energy, ambition, commitment, discipline, talent and drive to carry
their careers, their organizations and our community forward. The
Business Review notes that it is their willingness to solve problems
and overcome challenges and setbacks that will make their organizations
successful and the Capital Region a growing, vital place to live.
In his third year with the
City School District of Albany, Dr. Dragone leads the development of
academic programs, curriculum and instruction for the middle and high
schools. He also strives to build relationships with partners in higher
education and the public and private sectors, and fosters strong
academic leadership to support professional growth and excellence for
the district's 900 teachers. His work was profiled in the
fall 2007 edition of Capital Education, the district's
quarterly newsletter.
Before coming to Albany, Dr. Dragone served as the
principal of Cohoes Middle School in the Cohoes City School District,
which was recognized by the New York State Department of Education as a
leader in organizational and instructional performance. Dr. Dragone
holds a B.S. and a M.S.Ed. from The College of St. Rose and an M.S., CAS
and Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Policy Studies from the
University at Albany.
An accomplished saxophone
player, he also was a founding member of the popular Capital Region band
"The Burners UK."
Dr. Dragone and the other
"40 Under Forty" recipients will be honored during a celebration
luncheon at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Albany on May 1.
The City School
District of Albany serves approximately 9,000 students in 18
elementary, middle and high schools. The district includes several
magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic
opportunities for students in addition to neighborhood schools. The
district is more than halfway through its comprehensive facilities
project to newly build and/or renovate nearly all of its elementary
and middle schools. The ultimate goal of the facilities project is
to provide schools with the resources necessary to help students
succeed in the 21st century. |
