Annual Emergency Management Drill scheduled Nov. 9;

early dismissal for all students, after-school activities cancelled

ALBANY, N.Y. (November 5, 2007) -- The annual test of the City School District of Albany’s Early Dismissal Plan has been scheduled for Friday, November 9. The New York State Education Department requires this test for all schools in the state.

Pupils will be released 15 minutes earlier than their normally scheduled time in order to test the early dismissal response procedures of our district’s Emergency Management Plan. All after-school activities, including athletic practices, will be cancelled. Parents of children who attend after-school programs in district buildings must pick up their children at the school buildings attended during the school day, because students will not be transported by bus to after-school programs located in other district school buildings.

Students regularly transported to childcare or agencies not located in our school buildings will be transported to their scheduled after-school drop-off points.

Please make appropriate arrangements at home and with childcare providers for the early arrival of your children on this date. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

The City School District of Albany serves about 9,300 students in 19 elementary, middle and high schools. The district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students in addition to neighborhood schools. The district is more than halfway through its comprehensive facilities project to newly build and/or renovate nearly all of its elementary and middle schools. The ultimate goal of the facilities project is to provide schools with the resources necessary to help students succeed in the 21st century.
