ALBANY, N.Y. (August 27, 2007)
-- The City
School District of Albany will increase the length of its school day for
all elementary and middle school students in 2007-08. Future plans also
include increasing the length of the school day for high school
students; however, the daily start and end times for the high schools
will not change in the upcoming school year.
Middle school students will receive an additional 30 minutes of
instruction each day and elementary students will receive an additional
15 minutes each day. To help you plan and prepare for the school year,
the schedule for start and end times is provided on
each school's
individual Web page.
Additionally, the
district’s Transportation Department has worked closely with our
transportation providers – Durham Bus Services and CDTA – to adjust
transportation schedules according to the new schedule. Additional
information regarding transportation schedules and services is included
in the district's back-to-school newsletter, which was mailed to all
city residents in late August.
The City School
District of Albany serves almost 9,400 students in 19
elementary, middle and high schools. The district includes several
magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic
opportunities for students in addition to neighborhood schools. The
district is more than halfway through its comprehensive facilities
project to newly build and/or renovate nearly all of its elementary
and middle schools. The ultimate goal of the facilities project is
to provide schools with the resources necessary to help students
succeed in the 21st century.
