Albany High theatre arts program presents

Promising Playwrights Festival

ALBANY, N.Y. (January 28, 2008) -- The Albany High School Theatre Ensemble will present the world-premiere staged readings of 10-minute plays written by students in the school’s new playwriting course on Feb. 14-15.

The biannual "Promising Playwrights Festival" will be directed by Alan Weeks, who teaches theatre arts at Albany High and Philip Livingston Magnet Academy. Mr. Weeks’ personal credits included numerous film and Broadway productions.

Each night will feature different plays, and the audience will have the opportunity to participate by filling out a survey with each piece and joining in a Q&A session following each play. Student playwrights will ask the audience one question about their work and, time permitting, the audience will be free to address the playwright with their questions.

The performance begins at 7 p.m. both nights and will be held in the high school theater. General admission is $5 each night and $1 for students and senior citizens. A second festival is scheduled for June.
