Selection Committee accepting nominations

for inaugural Hall of Fame Class of 2009

ALBANY, N.Y. (June 12, 2009) -- The City School District of Albany is seeking nominations for the first class in its new Hall of Fame, which will induct its first members this fall.

Approved this year by the Board of Education, the Hall of Fame is a way of maintaining the rich heritage and tradition of the district’s successful academic, athletic and extracurricular programs. The Hall of Fame honors the contributions and accomplishments of these individuals who are worthy of recognition as examples for others to emulate.

The Hall of Fame will serve as a means of recognizing, preserving and honoring individuals who made significant contributions in academics, athletics, music, performing arts or other extracurricular activities at our high schools, and alumni who have excelled through their community involvement or in the business world.

Hall of Fame members also will be selected in two additional categories: administrators, coaches and teachers who demonstrated exceptional leadership, character and achievement during their careers; and contributors who have been loyal and devoted supporters of the district.

All nominations are welcome and must be received by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee by Friday, July 10. You can download the nomination form and nomination criteria in .pdf format at the following links:

All nominations should be returned to Director of Health, Athletics and Physical Education Kathy Ryan, either by e-mail at Kathy.ryan@albany.k12.ny.us or by mail at:

The Selection Committee will choose the inaugural 20-member class during the summer, and the inductees will be honored during Homecoming weekend, Oct. 16-17.

Inductees will be recognized on a new Wall of Fame at Albany High School. Following the Class of 2009, each class of inductees will include up to eight members.

The City School District of Albany serves approximately 8,300 students in 18 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students. The district is more than halfway through its comprehensive facilities project to newly build and/or renovate nearly all of its elementary and middle schools. The ultimate goal of the facilities project is to provide schools with the resources to help students succeed in the 21st century.
