ALBANY, N.Y. (March 12, 2009) -- Each year at the Memorial Day
observance in Washington, D.C., a three-hour parade passes along the
National Mall as a magnificent salute to American veterans. This year,
the parade will include one marching band from New York state – the City
School District of Albany’s Marching Falcons!
Comprised of about 60 students in grades 4-12, the marching band and
accompanying color guard have been rehearsing throughout the winter for
the May 25 event. They had an opportunity to perform right here at home
March 14 in Albany's annual St. Patrick's Day Parade (photos at right).

For the Memorial Day parade in Washington, D.C., the Marching Falcons will follow the parade route down
Constitution Avenue before ending at the U.S. Capitol building. The
opportunity has special significance this year because it will be the
first Memorial Day parade of Barack Obama’s presidency, said band
director Bryan Cady.

elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood
schools, the district includes several
magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic
opportunities for students. The
district is more than halfway through its comprehensive facilities
project to newly
build and/or renovate nearly all of its elementary

schools. The ultimate goal of the facilities project is
to provide schools with the resources necessary to help students
succeed in the 21st century. |
