-- The
City School District of Albany Board of Education will hold a public
hearing Jan. 6 to solicit comments from the community in connection with
applications by two charter schools to amend their charters.
Albany Preparatory Charter
School is seeking to change its education program and increase its
enrollment variance. KIPP Tech Valley Charter School is seeking to
extend its existing charter until the end of the current school year.
The public hearing will be
from 7-8 p.m. at Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School, located at 100
Elbel Court off of Whitehall Road.
Any
individual wishing to have comments submitted as part of the public
hearing record must submit such comments in writing to the facilitator
of the public hearing at the time of the public hearing. No comments,
written or otherwise, shall be considered or accepted after the public
hearing is closed. Speakers will be permitted three minutes for
comments.
The City School
District of Albany serves approximately 8,400 students in 18
elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood
schools, the district includes several
magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic
opportunities for students. The
district is more than halfway through its comprehensive facilities
project to newly build and/or renovate nearly all of its elementary
and middle schools. The ultimate goal of the facilities project is
to provide schools with the resources necessary to help students
succeed in the 21st century. |
