Board of Education moves monthly business meeting to Thursdays beginning in 2010

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 29, 2009) -- Starting in February, the City School District of Albany Board of Education will hold its first monthly meeting on the first Thursday of the month instead of the first Tuesday.

The board typically meets twice a month. The first meeting is considered the monthly business meeting and the board considers matters that require action at that time. The board also meets the third Thursday of the month for a “roundtable discussion” of specific items. Those meetings will remain on the third Thursday unless otherwise noted.

The January business meeting will be held Monday, Jan. 4 because the district is required to hold the first meeting of the new calendar year on the first business day to swear in newly elected board members and select board officers. The roundtable will be held Jan. 21 at William S. Hackett Middle School.

The new schedule for business meetings will take effect in February. That meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 4.

All business meetings are held at 7 p.m. at Albany High School, 700 Washington Ave. Roundtable meetings start at 7 p.m. and are held at schools throughout the district. For information on the location of roundtable meetings or a complete list of upcoming meetings, visit the Board of Education section of our Web site or call the clerk of the board at 475-6010.

The mission of the City School District of Albany is to educate and nurture all students to be responsible citizens, critical thinkers and lifelong learners to successfully compete in the global community by providing an academically rigorous and safe environment in partnership with parents, students and the community. The district serves approximately 8,400 students in 16 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students.
