Senior attends prestigious conference

ALBANY, N.Y. (March 19, 2010) – Albany High School senior Victoria Clo recently joined outstanding students from across the country in a leadership- development conference in Washington, D.C.

Clo attended the National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC) from March 9 through 14. There, she had the opportunity to interact with people who work in the three branches of government, the media and the international community.

"NYLC prepares students to serve our country well, whether that means as elected officials in our national's capital, as active members within the communities around the world or as intelligent, creative and responsible members of the work force," said Marguerite Regan, dean of academic affairs for the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, the organization that sponsored the conference.

Clo's conference activities included participating in a model Congress, where she and other students at the conference assumed the roles of U.S. Representatives and debated, amended and voted on proposed mock legislation. She also participated in leadership skill-building activities and simulations.

The mission of the City School District of Albany is to educate and nurture all students to be responsible citizens, critical thinkers and lifelong learners to successfully compete in the global community by providing an academically rigorous and safe environment in partnership with parents, students and the community. The district serves approximately 8,400 students in 16 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students.
