ALBANY, N.Y. (October
7, 2009)
-- A
master communicator able to interact easily and effectively with all
members of the community. A good manager, with a high level of integrity
and accountability. An educator with a passion for excellence and high
standards.
Those qualities
are at the top of the list as the City School District of Albany Board
of Education actively launches its national search for its next
superintendent.
The board
received a Leadership Profile Report at its meeting Oct. 6, summarizing
the feedback gathered over the past two months in a wide range of
meetings with community groups and individuals in the district and
throughout the city. We invite you to
download and review
the full Leadership Profile Report.
The data came
from feedback gathered during the meetings and from 175 leadership
assessment forms that allowed respondents to describe the primary
characteristics important to them in a superintendent, as well as what
they perceive as existing strengths and challenges the district faces as
it looks to the future.
The board will
use the criteria as it considers candidates for the position held by Eva
C. Jopseh, Ed.D., from 2004 until her retirement in July. Raymond
Colucciello, Ed.D., is serving as interim superintendent while the board
searches for Dr. Joseph’s permanent successor.
The
board’s goal is to develop a strong slate of potential semifinalists by
early winter, with a new superintendent to begin no later than July 1,
2010.
The mission of the City School District of
Albany is to educate and nurture all students to be
responsible citizens, critical thinkers and lifelong learners to
successfully compete in the global community by providing an
academically rigorous and safe environment in partnership with parents,
students and the community. The district
serves approximately 8,400 students in 16
elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood
schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as
well as other innovative academic opportunities for students.
