The Greater
Capital Region Principals’ Center of the Capital Area School
Development Association (CASDA) named Kimberly Wilkins,
principal of Albany Public School 16, one of two ‘Principals
of the Year’ for 2005.
The award
recognizes outstanding principals in a region of more than
140 school districts for their dedicated service to
students. Since its inception in 1991, 29 area principals
have received the honor.
CASDA
evaluates principals nominated by their colleagues on the
following criteria:

Setting
defined goals/direction for the school
-
Improving curriculum, instruction and student
achievement
-
Leading
professional development
-
Using
multiple sources of data in decision-making
-
Engaging
the community
Kimberly
Wilkins has served as Albany Public School 16’s principal
since 2000. Prior to her appointment at PS 16, Wilkins was
the assistant principal at Philip Livingston Magnet Academy,
and an instructor at Albany High.
“I am
overwhelmed! This is an honor, not for me, but for our
school. We have worked together to bring quality instruction
to all students. This is a wonderful way for our school to
be recognized, especially by this esteemed organization,”
says Wilkins.
CASDA will
also honor Thomas Perillo, principal of the Raphael J.
McNulty School in the Amsterdam School District.
Past
‘Principals of the Year’ from the Albany Public Schools
include Rachelle Salerno (1997), Terrance White (1996), and
Eleanor Bartlett (1994).
The Capital
Area School Development Association is a study council
affiliated with the School of Education at The University at
Albany, State University of New York. Chartered in 1949 by
the State Education Department and affiliated with the
University of the State of New York, CASDA is one of the
oldest study councils in the United States. Currently, 123
