ALBANY, N.Y. (June 9, 2009) -- On June 3, Philip
Livingston Magnet Academy eighth grader Sanaya Arrington received the
2009 Artistic Expression – Middle School Award from the County of Albany
Department for Children, Youth and Families Youth Bureau (D.C.Y.F.).
The prestigious award ceremony, which was held in the
Cahill Room in the Albany County Office Building, featured speeches from
County Executive Michael G. Breslin and representatives from D.C.Y.F.,
M&T Bank, and CBS 6.
The Youth Recognition Awards Program was created to honor
youth for academic achievement, personal growth, and contributions to
the community.
The City
School District of Albany serves approximately 8,400 students in 18
elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood
schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as
well as other innovative academic opportunities for students. The
district is more than halfway through its comprehensive facilities
project to newly build and/or renovate nearly all of its elementary and
middle schools. The ultimate goal of the facilities project is to
provide schools with the resources necessary to help students succeed in
the 21st century. |
