17 teachers lauded with district's first Golden Apple awards
ALBANY, N.Y. (July
6, 2012) -- The City School District of Albany
congratulates the 17 teachers who have been recognized as recipients of
the district’s inaugural Golden Apple awards.
The district launched the Golden Apple program this
year, in partnership with
First New York Federal
Credit Union, to recognize an outstanding teacher in each school who
demonstrates excellence in instruction and leadership within the school
community.
Board of Education Secretary Alexandra
Streznewski was instrumental in developing the program to recognize
teachers. The award will be presented annually.
The 2012 Golden Apple recipients were honored at a
Superintendent's Reception at Academy Park on June 18.

The mission of the City School District of
Albany is to educate and nurture all students to be
responsible citizens, critical thinkers and lifelong learners to
successfully compete in the global community by providing an
academically rigorous and safe environment in partnership with parents,
students and the community. The district serves about 8,600
students in 15
elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood
schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as
well as other innovative academic opportunities for students,
including four themed academies at Albany High
School.
