Albany High student asks community to donate Soles4Souls

ALBANY, N.Y. (Nov. 17, 2011) -- Albany High School invites you to help those in need this holiday season by contributing a pair of new or gently used shoes to its student-led Soles4Souls campaign.

Discovery Academy junior Elide Pichardo (pictured at right) has organized the shoe drive after being motivated to develop a community-service project during a summer leadership program at RPI.

"Shoes are a basic necessity that we all take for granted," Pichardo said. "It's important for us to give back to those who aren't as fortunate."

Donations are being accepted at the high school since the Nov. 18 performance of Scapino! by the Albany High Theatre Ensemble. The Soles4Souls campaign continues through Dec. 19. Donation boxes are located at the main office and in the Discovery and Leadership academy house offices.

Additionally, anyone donating a new or gently used pair of shoes, sneakers or boots will receive free admission to the following Albany High basketball games:

  • Friday, Dec. 9 -- Boys vs. Bishop Maginn

    • JV at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6:30 p.m.

  • Friday, Jan. 6 -- Girls vs. Catholic Central

    • JV at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m.
