District to hold June lottery for pre-K for 3-year-olds

ALBANY, N.Y. (May 1, 2017) -- Applications are available for a lottery to fill September spots in the City School District of Albany’s program to provide prekindergarten for 3-year olds.

Click here to download an application. You also can pick up an application at any district elementary school or Central Registration, located at 75 Watervliet Ave.

There are some 273 spots. Priority will be given to families whose children would attend Arbor Hill Elementary School, Delaware Community School, Giffen Memorial Elementary School, Philip Schuyler Achievement Academy and Sheridan Preparatory Academy.

The deadline to apply for the lottery is May 24. The lottery will be held June 7.

The district, already a regional leader in providing full-day prekindergarten, began expanding its early childhood opportunities in 2015 thanks to a grant from the state.

The mission of the City School District of Albany is to educate and prepare all students for college and career, citizenship and life, in partnership with our diverse community. The district serves more than 9,600 students in 17 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students, including four themed academies at Albany High School.
