School is back in session!

ALBANY, N.Y. (Sept. 5, 2017) -- The City School District of Albany welcomed students from prekindergarten through ninth grade Tuesday to the start of the 2017-18 school year.

 

And on Wednesdsay it will be all-in as students in grades 10-12 at Albany High School officially begin the school year.

 

On Tuesday, State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia and Board of Regents member Josephine Finn joined Superintendent Kaweeda G. Adams as the day began at Albany International Center, the school district’s new program for refugee and immigrant students.

 

In the meatime, Albany High held its annual Freshman First Day to help new students learn their way around the building.

 

Elsewhere in the district, friends old and new were acquainted and reacquainted.

The mission of the City School District of Albany is to educate and prepare all students for college and career, citizenship and life, in partnership with our diverse community. The district serves nearly 9,700 students in 18 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students, including four themed academies at Albany High School.
