Convocation 2017

ALBANY, N.Y. (Sept. 1, 2017) – Staff members from across the City School District of Albany gathered alongside student performers, dignitaries and community members to kick off the new school year in the spirit of positivity, progress and understanding at the 2017 Convocation.

Superintendent Kaweeda G. Adams paraphrased the words of educational pioneer Hiam Ginott to remind all staff members that no matter what role they play, their attitude is the deciding factor in the successful education of our students:

“I have come to the frightening conclusion that we are the decisive element in the classroom and in our educational setting. It is our daily mood that makes the weather.”

Here’s to a fantastic school year!

The mission of the City School District of Albany is to educate and prepare all students for college and career, citizenship and life, in partnership with our diverse community. The district serves nearly 9,700 students in 18 elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students, including four themed academies at Albany High School.
