Back to school -- September 2011

Neither rain nor hurricane could keep students and staff in the City School District of Albany from starting the 2011-12 school year with energy and enthusiasm.

From the smallest prekindergartener to the tallest high-school senior, every student began with a fresh start. Below are photos taken during the early days of school.

Center home page.

This family of Giffen Memorial Elementary students stays dry in the drizzle as they cross the street to go to their

school. The sisters in the photo at right, also Giffen students, brighten up the day with their bright clothes and

bright smiles.

The pair of brothers from Schuyler Achievement Academy pictured at left is clearly happy to back at school. On

the right, new Schuyler principal Tony Clement takes stock of what's happening in a first-grade classroom.

On the left, cartons of chilled milk await the hands of thirsty students. At right, a dad walks his daughter to Pine

Hills Elementary School.

At Thomas O'Brien Academy of Science ant Technology (TOAST), math is on the minds of third-graders like

the one pictured on the left. On the right, a TOAST kindergartener takes great joy in working a new piece of

Play-Doh.

Albany High students receive their marching orders --where and when their classes will be held -- from Office Assigned Teacher Kandi Antonetti.

These sixth-graders in Lisa House's class at William S. Hackett Middle School already are deep into their lessons.

Albany High School's newly paved courtyard is made shiny by the rain that fell on the first day of school.

This Albany High student waits to head into the orientation that took place the first day of school.
