Dads Take Your Child to School Day

More than 700 local dads, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and mentors
took part Tuesday in the
City School District of Albany's celebration of "Dads Take Your Child to
School Day." Altogether, 13 elementary and middle schools
participated in the event by hosting assemblies, speakers, breakfasts,
raffles and more.

Albany School of Humanities (ASH)
On the left, El Shahiem Coles and his niece, ASH
kindergarten student A'Niylah Kittle, design a picture frame. At
School Resource Officer Willie Hughes speaks to the crowd at the event,
which drew more than 160 fathers and father figures.
Montessori Magnet School
Dads aplenty took their
kids to Montessori Magnet School, where they socialized on the
playground, had break-
fast or just spent some
extra time together. Some 70 dads took part in the day.
North Albany Academy
Dads packed the gym at the North Albany YMCA for
North Albany Academy's event, which featured speakers and
a hot breakfast.
More than 70 dads participated.
Pine Hills Elementary School
than 100 Pine Hills Elementary School dads and their kids noshed on
bagels and shared some time together
before the school day began.
Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School
Some 40 fathers and father-figures attended the
Myers Middle School celebration, which featured breakfast, guest
speakers and a discussion of the impact fathers have on families. At
left, fathers take a pledge to do right by their
children. At right,
Myers Assistant Principal Marilyn Jones-Oliver presents a certificate to
one of the dads who attended.
