Albany
High School senior Hezekiah Williamson has been selected as one of 80
student-athletes nationwide who will participate in the Offense-Defense
All-American Bowl at Dallas Cowboys Stadium in December
Williamson, a running back and linebacker for the Falcons, was selected
based on his performance at a summer football camp in South Carolina.
His trip to Texas will include a tour of the magnificent new Cowboys
Stadium. The game is scheduled for Dec. 30 and will be televised
nationally on ESPNU.
Williamson (pictured at right in an interview with WNYT/TV-13 sports
reporter Andrew Catalon on Oct. 18) will be recognized Nov. 1 as the
Ch. 13 Dunkin' Donuts
Athlete of the Week.
A
three-year varsity player for Albany High, Williamson has scored two touchdowns this season – one rushing and one receiving. He
also is a dynamic force on defense.
As
an example of the caliber of student-athlete selected to play in the
Offense-Defense All-American Bowl, the MVP of the inaugural game in 2007
was Cam Newton, who went on to become the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner
while leading Auburn University to the national championship. Newton was
the first pick in this year’s NFL Draft and is the starting quarterback
for the NFL’s Carolina Panthers. Current Dallas Cowboys star
receiver Dez Bryant also played in the 2007 bowl, as did current NFL
players Golden Tate (Seattle Seahawks) and Casey Matthews (Philadelphia
Eagles).
