Great things are happening in Albany's public schools

Whether onstage, in the classroom or on the athletic field, great things are happening in the City School District of Albany.

For example, take Albany High School senior Nikolai Mishler, pictured at right.

He's an outstanding student with his sights set on the theater. He'll attend New York University next fall -- but not until completing his stellar on-stage career at Albany High in April's spring musical, "My Fair Lady.''

Mishler is but one of the thousands of students in the City School District of Albany with big dreams and bright futures. The 2011-12 school calendar features 24 such students: actors and athletes, painters and percussionists, scientists and scholars.

Choosing two dozen students to represent the district proved a challenge because so many fit the definition of exceptional. In the end, though, principals recommended these students and we are proud to recognize them for being part of what makes our schools great places to learn and grow.

To find out what makes each student extraordinary, click on his or her name below.
