Facilities Plan:
School-by-School

Montessori Magnet School
65 Tremont Street

Montessori Magnet School hosted its grand opening celebration for families and neighbors in August 2005. The school serves approximately 300 students in grades Pre-K-5. Prior to moving into its new building, Montessori was housed in a downtown Park Avenue building that was once a Catholic school. The City School District of Albany leased the space from the Catholic Diocese for $200,000 each year. Due to the popularity of the school, enrollment grew and space was limited.

New & State-of-the-Art School
The Montessori Magnet School moved into a brand new, two-story, 45,000-square-foot building at 65 Tremont Street, formerly the site of PS 26.

The new school provides a Pre-K program for four year olds. Children in the neighborhood will have the choice of attending either the new Montessori school or a renovated and enlarged Eagle Point Elementary School (formerly PS 27) on Western Avenue. The multi-colored design of the new school reflects the character, scale and colors of the neighborhood.

The new school includes:

  • 13 classrooms for grades Pre-K-5 (all Pre-K and kindergarten rooms with toilets)

  • 2 special education classrooms with support rooms for special services

  • 2 remedial classrooms for Academic Support Services

  • 1 music room with practice area and space for storage

  • 1 art room with kiln and storage space

  • Library/media center

  • Gymnasium

  • Cafeteria

  • Administrative support areas for principal, counseling, attendance, and special services

  • Nurse's suite with exam room, bed area, and toilet

  • Faculty work areas

  • Parent/community conference area

Site work:

  • A play area dedicated for grades Pre-K-2 students

  • Off-street parking for 27 cars

  • A bus drop-off with a covered canopy

Other features:
