Calculate your estimated tax bill for
the 2007-08 school year

How to calculate your estimated tax bill for 2007-2008

Many district residents may be wondering how the recent city-wide reassessments will affect their 2007-08 tax bill under the proposed budget.

When trying to estimate the impact of your new assessment, you cannot simply multiply the NEW assessment by the OLD tax rate. How your school taxes are impacted will depend upon your new assessment and the projected tax rate for 2007-08 under the proposed budget that voters will decide on May 15.

If voters approve the proposed budget, the new school tax rate for homestead property owners in Albany is projected at $15.51 per $1,000 of assessed value, and for non-homestead properties is projected at $24.87 per $1,000 of assessed value.

The New York State Division of Budget estimates that a property owner in Albany with a household income of $90,000 or less would receive a state rebate check of $410 this coming fall. By comparison, Albany property owners enrolled in the Basic STAR program received a rebate check in 2006 of $192.33.
