Philip Livingston Magnet Academy
served students as a junior high and middle school from
1932 until the end of the 2008-09 school year.

ceremonies for Livingston's final class of eighth-grade
graduates on June 25, 2009.
The architecturally significant school
continues to serve students as the home of the Tutorial
Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) and the Adult
Learning Center. Livingston also is the headquarters of
the district's Food Services operation.
The school is home to excellent athletic facilities, computer
labs, a library, a dance studio, a drama
studio and an auditorium that seats 1,100. The
auditorium once was used by the Albany Symphony as its
practice hall.
Tivoli Lakes Park, New
York state's second-largest urban wildlife preserve, is
located directly behind the school, providing the school
access to an 82-acre natural environmental laboratory.
2009-10 middle school
enrollment
With the
middle school program at Philip Livingston Magnet
Academy closing after the 2008-09 school year due to declining
enrollment, the City School District of Albany has
transitioned to a feeder enrollment model for middle
school students beginning in 2009-10. Students from
designated elementary schools will be assigned to either
Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School or
William S.
Hackett Middle School. Each school will enroll about
650 students. Students in the elementary program at
North Albany
Academy will continue on in that school's
middle-level program, which will serve about 150
students in grades 6-8.
Livingston
students in grades 6-7 during the 2008-09 were able to
choose Hackett, Myers or North Albany Academy for 2009-10. Families
living within a half-mile of Livingston also had
the option of choosing Hackett or Myers under the
neighborhood zone policy.
Visit the Middle School Enrollment section for more
information.
