School Goals,
2005-06
Goal 1
The Literacy
Collaborative, under the auspices of Lesley University
in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is a comprehensive
school-wide model which helps teachers provide cohesive,
consistent literacy instruction across all grade levels.
A literacy coordinator undergoes intensive educational
training and provides ongoing professional development
for the entire faculty. A reading recovery teacher is
trained to help struggling first graders with their
literacy skills. The model has had a positive influence
on classes by providing meaningful literacy activities,
as well as fostering independent learning.
Goal 2
Science Enrichment includes a specialized science
instructor working in conjunction with classroom
teachers to develop an appreciation of learning
(Discovery/Inquiry method).
Goal 3
Every student is encouraged to participate in a variety
of school clubs including structured enrichment
activities and team building within a small group
setting.
Goal 4
The school supports community relations in partnership
with Albany International, Lexis-Nexis (Matthew Bender),
and the Jewish Coalition, all of which bring business
and community groups into the school to assist children
with literacy and social skills.
Goal 5
Students are encouraged to read at home. The Fortune 500
Lending Library, based on the "1,000 Books Club," is
designed to provide quality literature to students along
with home partnership. North Albany Academy families may
borrow a set of five books each week throughout the
school year.
Goal 6
North Albany Academy is a small, friendly, and
collaborative learning family. We pride ourselves on our
commitment to each child fulfilling his/her full
educational potential.
