About Pine Hills
Elementary School Completely
rebuilt in 2005-06 as part of the district's sweeping
facilities project, the former Public School 16 reopened
in the winter of 2007 as Pine Hills
Elementary School. Pine Hills is
a neighborhood school serving students in Grades K-5
with 50 full-time and 14 part-time staff. Our students
come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.
The school
is home to a School-Wide Academic Planning Team whose
members include the principal, faculty, staff and
parents. This team focuses on academic excellence for
our students and staff.
In 2001, the
then-School 16 Student Council adopted a new mascot, the
dolphin, and new school colors, blue and white. The logo
incorporates our core values of respect, responsibility
and consideration.
For the
2005-2006 school year, we adopted the theme of
"Going the Extra Mile" in all that we do. Our theme
comes from the behavior of dolphins. For example, when a
dolphin pod member is sick or injured, other dolphins
stay by its side, supporting and caring for the pod
member until it is well enough to care for itself.
As a
school community we are committed to Going the Extra
Mile by caring and supporting each other every day.
Check out the
March 27 story on CBS6 about educators from
across the country touring Pine Hills as part of
their visit to Albany for the National Urban
Alliance for Effective Education annual conference.
Pine Hills Elementary School
fourth-grader Arielle King collected more than 800
pieces of winter clothing and distributed them to
nine of the city's schools this winter.
