2021-22 Back to School Plan

Student Orientation Days (Sept. 2-3)

To help our students transition back to full in-person instruction following the varied schedules that students followed from March 2020 throughout the 2020-21 school year, we will begin the 2021-22 school year with Student Orientation Days on Sept. 2-3.

The first full school day of attendance for all students throughout the district will be Wednesday, Sept. 8.


Elementary

Students at the elementary level (PK-5) will attend school on the following schedules on our Student Orientation Days:

  • Thursday, Sept. 2: Grades 1-2
  • Friday, Sept. 3: Grades 3-5
  • Prekindergarten and kindergarten: Individual schools will communicate their plans for these students separately with their respective families.

We will return to our standard school times for all elementary schools and programs for the 2021-22 school year, beginning with our Sept. 2-3 Student Orientation Days:

Elementary school times

Early start schools (8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.)

  • Albany School of Humanities (ASH)
  • Eagle Point Elementary School
  • Montessori Magnet School
  • Pine Hills Elementary School
  • Sheridan Preparatory Academy
  • Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology

Late start schools (9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.)

  • Albany International Center (K-5)
  • Arbor Hill Elementary School
  • Delaware Community School
  • Dual Language Program at 50 North Lark St.
  • Giffen Memorial Elementary School
  • New Scotland Elementary School
  • Philip J. Schuyler Achievement Academy

Middle School

Students at the middle level will attend school on the following schedules on our Student Orientation Days:

  • Thursday, Sept. 2: All students with last names beginning with the letters A-L (no school for students with last names beginning with M-Z)
    • Albany International Center: All students in grades 6-8 (8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.)
  • Friday, Sept. 3: All students with last names beginning with the letters M-Z (no school for students with last names beginning with A-L)

Middle school times (grades 6-8) 

  • Albany International Center: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • North Albany Middle School: 8 a.m.-3 p.m. 
  • Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School: 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • William S. Hackett Middle School: 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

High School

Students at the high school level will attend school on the following schedules on our Student Orientation Days.

  • Thursday, Sept. 2: Grade 9 Orientation (no school for students in grades 10-12)
    • Morning (8:30-11:30 a.m.): Last names A-L only
    • Afternoon (12:30-3:30 pm.): Last names M-Z only
    • Tony Clement Center for Education Choice program (1:30-3:30 p.m.)
  • Friday, Sept. 3: Grades 10-12 Orientation (no school for students in grade 9)
    • Morning (8:30-11:30 a.m.):  Last names A-L only
    • Afternoon (12:30-3:30 p.m.):  Last names M-Z only
    • All AIC students in grades 9-12: 8:30-3:30 p.m.
    • All Tony Clement Center for Education High School Program: 1:30-3:30 p.m.

High school times (grades 9-12, beginning Sept. 8):

  • Albany High School: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • Albany International Center: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • Tony Clement Center for Education: 9:10 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
     

The City School District of Albany continues to work in collaboration with our state and local health and education partners and medical professionals to review the latest COVID-19 guidance and recommendations. As new information is provided to us, we will update this document accordingly.
