Like most school districts around the country, the City School District of Albany is incorporating “common core standards” into the English language arts (ELA) courses taught in your child's school.

In short, these national standards describe the skills and knowledge your child needs to succeed in a rapidly changing world, including the ability to think creatively, solve real-world problems, make effective arguments, and engage in debates.

Our district is working to align the K-12 ELA curriculum to the New York state common core learning standards. This work began in the 2011-2012 school year and continues. Implementation will be ongoing as we seek to provide a rigorous education to Albany’s children that will prepare them for college and career.
