Parent University: November 2021
Topic: Talk Saves Lives
This month's Parent University features two live virtual presentations of "Talk Saves Lives" from Sandra Goldmeer, Area Director of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
These presentations are best suited for families with middle and high school students.
Introduction
Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention is a community-based presentation that covers the general scope of suicide, the research on prevention and what people can do to fight suicide.
Participants will learn common risk factors and warning signs associated with suicide, and how to keep themselves and others safe including a discussion about self-care.
The presentations will include material from their new program which helps students identify that they or friends might be struggling and how initiate a conversation about mental health not only with each other, but when to reach out to trusted adults.
