2018-19 news and information
celebrates 100th day of school -- Thursday
was the 100th day of school, and kindergarteners at
New Scotland Elementary School showed off how much
they know about the number 100 in a wealth of
hands-on ways. Whether it was STEM projects in Tania
Swierzerwki’s class, math ventures in Heather
Stanton’s class, English language arts activities in
Wanda Carter’s and Gloria Corley’s class or
demonstrations in Jennifer Pratt’s class, students
were proud of their smarts about the number 100.
Kindergarteners answered questions like, “If I had
$100, I would …” and “How do you count to 100?” They
built towers of 100 paper cups and 100 Lincoln logs.
They created sculptures out of 100 straws and 100
Lego pieces. They strung (and in many cases, ate)
necklaces of 100 Froot Loops. And behind every
exercise was a thorough knowledge of the
all-important number: 100.

- First day of school
-- It's back to the books at New Scotland
Elementary School! But it wasn't all serious, there
were lots of hugs and even more laughter on the

About New Scotland Elementary
School 19 was built in 1919. It was expanded in 1924 and
again in 1950, but remained virtually the same until it
underwent a complete facelift that started in mid-2007
and ended 18 months later. The school community chose a
new name to reflect their renovated building: New
Scotland Elementary School.
The school is fully accessible to
people with disabilities. It also has 21
grade-specific classrooms, a new library, a new gym, a
new cafeteria/auditorium, and new mechanical,
electrical, plumbing, communications, security and
The school's mission is to
provide an environment through the cooperation of
parents, students, teachers, administrators and
community residents in which students can achieve their
academic and emotional potential through the development
of self-confidence, self-discipline, self-expression,
